Salary:

  • Competitive salary depending on years of experience.
  • Between $110,000 to $150,000 per year plus bonus

Working hours

  • 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Overtime as required.

POSITION SUMMARY The Engineering VP of manufacturing & Operations is accountable for ensuring that the Operations Division (Engineering, Procurement, Manufacturing, Logistics, Planning and Quality) achieves BRC’s strategic and operational plans. These plans include: creating enterprise value, meeting, or exceeding customers’ expectations in terms of quality and on time delivery; maximizing plant capacity and efficiency through equipment, processes and culture; enhancing employee (unionized and non-unionized) engagement and ensuring their Health & Safety. The Engineering VP of manufacturing & Operations is a member of BRC’s Leadership Team and plays an integral role steering the long-term success of the organization. RESPONSIBILITIES

  • In conjunction with the Senior Leadership Team, establish current and long-range strategies, objectives, plans, and policies;
  • Oversee the timely execution of the business plan and strategic initiatives in Operations by managing scope, coordinating resources, and prioritizing the work;
  • Review operating results of the organization, compare them to established objectives, and ensure that appropriate measures are taken to recognize superior performance and correct unsatisfactory results;
  • Allocate material, human, and financial resources to implement manufacturing policies and programs; institute financial and administrative controls; endorse promotional campaigns; and approve comprehensive personnel planning.
  • Achieve operations profitability by optimizing Operations capacity and efficiency through:
    • Ensuring the Engineering team is developing products that meet Tayco’s strategic plan and customers’ needs in a cost effective and repeatable and reliable manner;
    • Provide support to the Procurement team and ensure Tayco has the right products at the right time, the right price, and in the right quantities. Consistently review for cost-savings, efficiencies, and rebates;
    • Ensure Manufacturing has production standards (KPIs) and processes for improvement;
    • Optimize the machines run time by ensuring the team adheres to maintenance instructions and schedules;
    • Stay informed of changes to technology, create business cases for capital expenditures Optimize labour resources effectively and efficiently while adhering to the spirit and letter of the Collective Agreement;
    • Oversee Standard Operating Procedures development, consistency and training.
    • Establish a Quality Management for BRC and ensure the program is being adhered to.
    • Eliminate cost and/or waste through applying LEAN manufacturing and Continuous improvement suggestions. Continuously identify and recommend ways to utilize lean manufacturing methodologies to improve Plant processes in ensure alignment with long- and short-term strategies and objectives in an effective and timely manner.  Implement 5S initiatives.
    • Effectively manage the carrying cost of inventory, inventory turnover, inventory to sales ratio, rates of returns, inventory accuracy, back-order rates and claims.
    • Optimize distribution.
    • Ensure building maintenance and structure, expansions and upgrades,  workplace design and space modeling for efficiency, safety and environmental initiatives;
    • Lead technology and innovation selection, design, implementation, and return-on-investment analysis;
    • Monitor and solicit government subsidies, grants, incentives and rebates as relates to any building, equipment, supply, service, and / or operations manpower opportunity that may exist.
  • Manage business relationships to foster open communication and collaboration within the team, with customers, vendors, suppliers, and other stakeholders;
  • Continue to develop the Tayco culture by being a role model that exhibits the right behaviours and champions them.  Create and maintain an Operations Culture that is in alignment with the Core Values and the Collective Agreement and ensures that the needs of the business, customers and staff are being met;
  • Lead and optimize the engagement and effectiveness of direct reports by: directing, implementing and continuously improving work processes and practices; establishing and communicating performance expectations; providing ongoing performance feedback, coaching and mentoring; ensuring the development of the team consistent with business strategy through succession and talent planning and by rewarding and recognizing staff.
  • Select middle managers, directors, or other executive staff; Ensure managers and supervisors have the appropriate skills, training, and tools to train and develop staff for success, coach and report if corrective action is required in accordance with Tayco policy and practices and in accordance with the collective agreement, conduct employee training, and create a harmonious union/management environment;
  • Ensure all staff complies with Health & Safety protocols and SOP’s including monthly workplace inspections and WSIB protocols are followed, reported and corrective action steps are taken. Strive to ensure 100% accident-free days.
  • Participate in the organizing social events.
  • Enhance employee engagement by implementing identified improvement objectives.
  • Establish and maintain an effective system of communications throughout the organization and develop harmonious relationships with all departments.

  • A minimum of a University Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and or Business Management and additional education and development in business and/or leadership.
  • Must have a minimum of ten years of progressive manufacturing operational business experience that encompasses operational management.
  • A profound familiarity with office furniture manufacturing processes or analogous industries, including experience with BRC products, is paramount for candidates aspiring to the Vice President position. Proven expertise and extensive experience in this sector will be highly advantageous. This in-depth understanding encompasses knowledge of material sourcing, production methodologies, quality assurance standards, and market dynamics specific to office furniture manufacturing, particularly those utilizing BRC products. Such expertise empowers the VP to spearhead strategic initiatives, drive innovation, and deliver tailored solutions that resonate with the unique needs and challenges of clients within this niche.

  • While performing the duties as the engineering VP of manufacturing & Operations, is required to:
    • Stand, walk, talk, and hear.
    • Handle, feel, and reach using hands, fingers, and arms. It may rarely be required to lift materials, occasionally up to 50 lbs manually. Use basic material handling equipment.
    • View a computer screen and type on a keyboard.
  • The noise level in the plant is usually moderate to high.
  • The plant can be cooler in the winter and hot in the summer, and somewhat dusty.
  • Certain departments may require additional PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) depending on the hazards identified for a particular production unit.
  • Safety glasses and shoes are required in the Plant at all times
